With over 350 products, Stone Construction Inc. of Honeoye, New York is a leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of light construction equipment. Their product line includes concrete and mortar mixers, power trowels, concrete and masonry saws as well as handheld, walk-behind and ride-on dirt and asphalt compactors.

When the company decided to add a new 66-inch roller to their product line, they also needed to increase their manufacturing space by some 45,000 square feet.

“We first brought Aloi into the project because they were local and we wanted to widen the bidding process,” said Dick Kastner, Stone’s manager of manufacturing services.  “Aloi came out on top because of how they presented themselves as a company, their ability to put a team of vendors together and their experience in successfully installing large crane projects.  We were impressed by their range of services and the fact that they shared our sense of urgency in getting this project done.”

To meet their unique, heavy manufacturing requirements, Aloi specified seven long-span, double girder, building-supported 5-15 ton capacity, radio-controlled cranes with spans of up to 70 feet.  In addition, 11 task-specific freestanding cranes, ranging from 500-pound to 60-ton capacity, were also incorporated into the design.

“Aloi worked with us to determine the best crane for each discreet task and each of our lift and safety specification. In the end, they worked with a number of different manufacturers to give us optimum crane coverage and the best product for each functional area,”explained Stone manufacturing engineer Bob Gelser.

Because the cranes were the last piece of the project, Gelser admits that there was tremendous pressure on Aloi to get the cranes installed. “We had a very aggressive schedule to meet and Aloi certainly came through for us. They were very good to work with. They continue to surprise us with their ability to move quickly and respond to our ongoing materials handling needs.”
